Here are some tips for washing vinyl shirts, also known as shirts with heat transfer vinyl (HTV), to help extend the life of the design:
- Turn inside out - Wash and dry the shirt inside out to protect the vinyl from abrasion with other clothes in the wash. Continue this practice for every wash and dry cycle.
- Use cool or lukewarm water - High heat can warp or peel the design, so use cool or lukewarm water and turn down the heat on your washer and dryer.
- Use mild detergent - Use a small amount of gentle liquid laundry detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
- Hang dry or tumble dry low - Hang drying is best, but you can also tumble dry on low heat, even if it takes longer.
- Don't dry clean or iron - The harsh chemicals in dry cleaning can damage the design, and you shouldn't iron directly on the HTV.
